- When and how did you discover Second Life? – It seems like forever and a day ago. I remember when I first heard about SL, I tried it but I had a horrible computer and nothing would ever rez so I gave up. Then I met someone in real life at a local event and he introduced me again to SL. Made me sign up and that's how my original account was created. I think it was nice because I had a real life friend showing me the ropes. We'd have SL date nights when we couldn't be around. But he was very strict and would only let me do Second Life Hunts. We just had that type of relationship. So when we broke up I kind of went crazzzzy.
- Did you know about virtual worlds before or was this your first experience with them? I used to chit chat on a text base place called mIRC for more years then I care to admit too.
- Has Second Life met your expectations? Oh yes and then some. I have met amazing people via Second Life. Some friendships I treasure, some I miss. I honestly wish I had more of a friend base on SL, sure I have over 100 people on my friends list but only about 4 or 5 that I speak to on a regular basis.
- If you could teleport back to the first ten minutes of your avatar’s slife, what would you tell yourself? To not listen to the guy that I was with back then and to just have fun! Hmmms. Seriously, I would have gone back to the very first account and told myself to be more patient and to invest in things.
- How long did it take you to master avatar flying and driving vehicles inworld? Driving vehicles in SL? They don't allow me to drive in SL. Every time I do I crash. I tend to walk or run. I do sorta have that flying thing figured out. Now if I could figure out the zoom and caming via the keyboard and not the mouse I might be in business.
- Do you have a mystery alt? I have 3 total accounts. My Main account that I use now mostly for being my bank account. This account, then we created a third for a roleplay but we don't do much with it. I don't hide behind any of them and will freely give their names if ever asked.
- Is your SL avatar a reflection of you, or someone you wished you could be? Both? I would say personality wise Namrah is me other then more patient maybe sometimes, and a lot more shy. I WISH I could have her body, and the various hairs I'm able to wear, as well as the shoes ZOMG! I'd just go naked all the time around my house except for the shoes (IF I had Namrah's body, lol) Otherwise, she's who I wish I could be.
- Is there an individual you met in SL that inspired you in your RL? How? Gosh so many people have come and gone through my life via SL. I would say TJay who brought me to SL, inspired me to never give up of finding Mr. Right. Had he not pushed me into SL, it wouldn't have lead me to Cedric who've I have now lived with almost 2 years. Though via SL we've been together about 3.5. My friend Tanger who I also know in real life, she inspires me even if she doesn't know it. I like to give her shopping tips cuz her daughter nags at her. Someday mabye she'll realize I bargain shop and will trust in me for that, lol. Then there's all those that blog that inspire me, as well as people who take photographs who make me want to be a better SL photographer. Graham Collison is actually someone I stalked via a store for a picture he took and he told me about windlight settings and how he doesn't really edit anything, it's all raw natural SL shots, so that inspires me. I wish I was better at PS but I'm not, and I'm to impatient to read the tutorials, though Strawberry Singh has some awesome ones so I may start to explore that again. Honestly though I feel if I did do that, I'd never get any blogs done because I'm so hyper critical of my stuff.
- Do you feel it is easier to create stronger bonds/relationships with people you meet inworld as opposed to the real world? I would say both. I think it is easier to create bonds in SL, but I also sometimes think it's easy to get sucked into SL and forget that there's a real world outside the screen. In SL we can look however we want if I want to be skinny today and fat tomorrow then in 2 days be skinny again I can. If I want to spout fae ears or dragon horns I can. There's so much appeal in that.
- Did you ever imagine or believe people could fall in love with someone they never met before Second Life? Yes, but via SL it's beautiful because you can be so visual with everything you see and do.
- How has your perspective of dating changed (or not) since you started playing second life? –Eh. I met my mate here so I guess it's good. :)
- How has your perspective of employment changed (or not) since you started playing second life? – LOLOL I have tried working via SL, I do host because it's fun. I do use the tip money to tip other DJ's and hostesses because I feel pay it forward is important. I randomly tip sims I go to because they work hard and deserve it. I wish I was creative enough to build a business, but I don't have the patience for it. Maybe someday. But I host because it's fun not because I know i'm going to get rich.
- Name three things in both your lives that overlap each other significantly. Cedric overlaps both worlds as well as Tanger. I'm not really sure if there's a third though my family all know I SL so they will ask me about stuff about it.
- If you could live your life more immersively in a virtual world, would you? (Kind of like the Matrix) – Yes and no? I think sometimes SL motivates me to be lazy because there's so much to do. It's definitely cheaper to go to SL Disney World then the real Disney world, but you also miss out on the smells, the excitement the actual scenery. I think that we also take advantage of that fact it's easier to go to a picnic on SL then to go on one in real life... so it's easier to just stay home. But if the world was horrible out then yes I'd totally never leave my house.
- How do you think behavior changes for people if they’re inworld vs in real world? Why do you think that is? – I think people can be more idiots via SL. There's no real accountability. Yes I can complain if someone is being a snot nose jerk but really what's it going to gain? I try very hard to mind my own business when I go to places and I do my best to treat others how I want to be treated. I try to message people I care about and try to spend time with them, but that door again is a two way street. It only opens both ways if both try.
- How has second life consumerism changed your perception of spending habits, the value of money, the need to be “bleeding edge” with fashion?– ROFLMAO! Things like gacha's totally do me in. Poses, and hair. Cedric tries to set a budget which is one reason I decided to take on a hostessing position figure I needed to feed my habits without really digging into the real life money. Especially since neither of us are working right now. But it also helps me be more appreciative of the creators I blog for because they also help me feed my addictions and I really need to be better about my blogging more things.
- Do you think virtual worlds like SL drive and redefine human interaction or do they narrow and limit it? I think it's both, I think that people who are agoraphobic survive big time in a world like this as well as people who are home bound. I think SL gives them a life, and a purpose and gives them a social outlet that helps keep them from being depressed and what not. But I also think for those of us who can get out and be social it definitely limits it. I know for me for example, I used to be very active in our local BDSM community but over the last few years it's just to much drama and so I'd rather stay home on SL with people here then go socialize in real life. If I get tired or annoyed at someone I can just tp out or click the button. In real life, I have to suck it up and deal with it, lol.
- If technology progressed tomorrow to allow you to send emotions to people the way you’d send text or voice messages, would it enrich your SL experience or infringe on it? – I'm not sure. If I could send my friends positive energy and lots of healing energy's and emotions then yes in a heartbeat I would. But that could be a double edged sword where if you ticked someone off they could send out bad emotions and I wouldn't like that.
- Name three skills you attribute to having learned or honed in second life alone. – Changing clothes fast and being able to do it in pg areas without fear of my boobs showing. I've learned programs like blogging, and picmonkey. Lastly, I think patience and understanding for newer people who come to SL.
- If your grand kids googled your Second Life Avatar’s name, would they be intrigued, disgusted, proud or something else? -- Gosh I hope they never can google me. :) I hope they'd be proud and intrigued but I doubt they'd be disgusted cept by maybe some of the outfits I have from the beginning and horrified at the amount of junk I have in my inventory.
