Where does one start when they want to open the closet and show others what they keep behind the doors? I was 27 when I came out of the closet so to speak to my parents that I was in an alternate lifestyle. That was 16 years ago (yes I'm 43.) I remember being nervous and scared and wondering why the hell was I opening up to my parents about something so personal. I didn't WANT to tell them, but because 16 years ago the lifestyle wasn't as it is today. It wasn't mainstream. It was something "dirty", it was something "hidden" you didn't talk about it in polite company. I was being forced because my ex was going to drag my name through mud and I wanted my family to know MY version of BDSM not his. So I sat nervously on my parents back porch twisting my fingers in my hands, tearing through a paper napkin that sat on the table. Breathing in, breathing out.

For me it wasn't a choice I made, it was just something I was. I never understood my hungers, I had my first BDSM encounter when I was 19 and I liked it so much that I freaked out on my then fiance. Wonder what he'd think today, lol. But that day... it was scarey. I was telling my parents, I was their baby, their youngest. Their little girl and I was about to rattle their world. So I at there and told my parents that I was into BDSM, that I was submissive and exploring a new lifestyle. That I loved to be on my knees, that I loved serving. I didn't go into a whole lot of details. My mom looked at my dad, my dad looked at my mom and my mom said very quietly "Well, okay then. She's your kid to the core." She smiled, squeezed my hand then got up from the table picking up a Dr. Pepper can that my dad had moved during this interaction right in front of her. I sat back and was like "WELL! I grew up with it!" Of course they glared at me *laughs* but really, I grew up with a Dominant dad and a submissive mom. Once my mom was out of ear shot my dad leaned over and said "So do you get tied up? Will you teach me how to tie knots so I can tie up your mom?" Needless to say, my parents were very accepting of it.

I've gone through many ups and downs through my lifestyle journey. I've tried being a Top, but I prefer being the bottom. I've been submissive, been slave and been a babygirl. I used to participate in demos. I was very active in the local community for many years, teaching, educating, and most of all learning. Kink isn't a game to me, it's a lifestyle. It's who I am, what I am. It's given me security and freindships. It's taught me how to be more secure in my sexuality and my inner being. It's given me a more positive out look on life and helped mold me in many other ways.

So being someone who's been lifestyle for 16 years, I was thrilled to see ROMP-Fresh come to the grid. I loved how each creator gave a tasteful take on what the lifestyle is. From the clothes, to the toys, to the poses. Amazing. Thank you for your amazing taste and keeping it elegant and not so sexual. For me, it's not just about sex it's about a mindset, about a inner feeling that just goes beyond. There is so much trust and communication that must happen beween a Dominant and His or Her submissive. I was thrilled to be able to blog for such an inspiring event.
